John said he and his buddies received training from a company called GORUCK about three weeks ago
and it made a huge impact on them. Part of that training involved them carrying this log up Pilot Butte. They did it as a group and then later figured out how to carry it solo. So one person carries it to the top and then another one might carry it back down a few days later. There is no plan. They just show up at the Butte, find the log, and then carry it whatever direction it is headed. Each carries the log to connect to an issue of great personal importance. John carries it for family members who lost their lives in war and for "The Fallen Soldier" in general. You can actually feel the passion as John tells his part of the story and all the humility you might expect is right there as well. They are not seeking attention. Instead, they are doing something that is meaningful to them and the attention follows. When it does, a platform is created for them to tell you about something they know about first hand. That's my take, at least. I want to hear all their stories and yes we will include all of this in the book. For all of you who contribute to the amazing spirit that people at Pilot Butte share each and every day, this is an example of what happens as we all do our part in keeping that spirit alive.
John wanted me to mention GORUCK which he said is a fantastic company: CLICK HERE FOR MORE ABOUT THEM. They have a short video that many will find interesting.
